On Wednesday 21st July 2010, the Chamber launches their new website feature which will provide a comprehensive map-based website showing all shops and businesses based in and around Abingdon Town Centre - this includes Northcourt Road, Peachcroft, Radley Road, Fairacres, Marcham Road, etc. The website www.abingdonshoppingguide.co.uk goes live on the 21st and a social occasion to promote the event will be held at the Nags Head PH at 19.00 that evening.
Although it is hoped that every shop and business is listed, it is accepted and expected that a lot of smaller (and often 'home based') businesses will not be listed as no one knows they are there. One of the features of the site will be a place to register to ensure that anyone and everyone can be listed if they wish.
This truly amazing and innovative new website, pioneered by the Chamber and using the latest internet technology, will provide the simplest and most direct way of accessing all Abingdon's Business. Using this interactive, fun to use, on-line directory should prove invaluable in highlighting all businesses, and so promote the town of Abingdon. It will be possible to search by name, by category and by street, so that information on a business is just a click away!
For areas outside the town centre, businesses will be listed according to location within certain pre-defined areas:

But shops and businesses within the town centre will have the additional benefit of a map to locate their establishments….

Abingdon Chamber invites all businesses to come and join in the fun at the Nags Head PH on the 21st July from 19.00 when the big 'switch on' of www.abingdonshoppingguide.co.uk takes place, more details and a large screen display will be available. If the weather is fine, there will be a 'pay as you go' BBQ, as well as an opportunity to network and enjoy the company of other like minded business men and women.

On Wednesday 21st April, the Roysse Room at the Guildhall was filled with people interested in hearing what the Parliamentary Candidates had to say in response to questions from the business community. Wesley Smith (from BBC Radio Oxford, previously from Central TV News) was in the chair for over 2 hours of electoral debate on issues ranging from VAT, Business Rates, Finance, and Red Tape to Policing and the Fear of Crime. It was regrettable that, at the last minute, Dr Evan Harris was prevented from attending as he was required to attend a national hustings with Jack Straw and Dominic Grieve on Crime and Justice matters. However Neil Fawcett (Evan's election agent) ably stepped in at the 11th hour to represent Evan.
More pictures of the event can be seen at the website of the official photographer (see website www.kbphotography.co.uk/store [select KB Photography] and then just follow the links).
